Capiz shells

Capiz shells, also known as windowpane oysters, are bivalve mollusks with shells that are paper thin and translucent yet very durable. Capiz shells cannot be easily damaged by insects, rodents as well as molds unlike other materials used for making wallpapers and wall coverings. The flexibility and durability features of capiz shells make it easy to process into pliable sheets and sturdy tiles suitable for home and office interior walls.

Unprocessed capiz shells are off-white or beige in color on the outside and pearly white on the inside. Colored capiz shells are processed by using dyes or bleach. Flaking and changes in color are typical of capiz shells over years of use. However, innovations in the capiz shell industry found new ways to lessen discoloration and reduce flaking of the shells to make them more suitable for wall applications.
